Recently I ran into an old school friend who happens to be a girl from my high school days. We were quite chummy for a year or two and then she moved away and I would never see her again. Then the power of Facebook is upon us and one day I log onto my Facebook account and there is an invitation from my old friend. This has happened to me a few times and when I see old long lost friends like this, it really makes my day. Anyway, she happened to have a newspaper clipping of when I was skimboarding on Va. Beach strip as a teenager and some photographer unbeknown to me took my picture and the next thing I know Im in the newspaper as an advertisement for watching the weather at our local tv station. I believe it was this exact girl that called me up all those years ago and told me to go look at the newspaper because I was in it. Sure enough, it was me and I was excited and cut it out and kept it but many years later, I had lost it and all attempts to find it failed. I even remember at one point looking through the newspaper's archives for the clipping, but not knowing the exact dates it came out, I never found it. I gave up on it and just thought it would be a memory from my past. Well, my old friend looks me up and tells me she kept that clipping all these years. She then puts it up on her Facebook and for the 1st time in what must be at least 15 years, I see the pic again. Now I have a digital copy and Im glad to have both a friend back and someone who remembered me enough to keep this clipping and now I have a copy for myself back. If I was to guess when this was taken, I am fairly confident this was taken in 1983, so I was 16 at the time. I was quite the skimboarding fool back then and I was very talented at it (unlike now when I nearly broke my arm a few weeks ago). Ah youth....I would give anything to go back to days like this. But at least I have a pic that brings back a very vivid memory for me. Here it is.... I'm the one labeled Tommy G...

Don't be fooled! Facebook still sucks. Defiant1 Well, in the big scheme of things....yeah. I'm not teenager or egotistical enough to want everyone to look at me all the time or try and impress others with my mundane life. But when it comes to digging up things from your past and old friends you've long lost. It can be pretty cool at times.

I'm not teenager or egotistical enough to want everyone to look at me all the time or try and impress others with my mundane life. But when it comes to digging up things from your past and old friends you've long lost. It can be pretty cool at times. I used to go to all my class reunions. My best friends were never there. It was always the popular people that fed off attention early. I knew them all, but now they all look like out of shape and unattractive old people. Not saying I'm any better, but they are definitely not the people I knew. I just consider myspace & facebook excuses to be rude pricks. I've sent old "friends" a friendly question or comment. I don't get so much as a fart back from them. One musician friend sent out shitloads of bulletins but couldn't answer one question. Women ignore me the same way, but they come back a week or two later and act really sweet like "why aren't you chasing me". They don't say that, but it's like they felt guilty for giving me the cold shoulder. Again though, girls I dated years ago or my best friends simply aren't on the site. Maybe if I was to reunite with someone I really hung out with a lot, it might be cool. Then again, if they look like my old classmates did and lament over divorce or the kids not behaving, no loss.
