I remember in the 80's Joe Perry quit and I thought they could go on without him. But I haven't really cared too much for the slowed down, softer, gentler and more poppy Aerosmith of the last 20 years once Perry did return and found even larger success. Now word is out that Tyler is the one that left the band this time and Perry is vowing to go on. I don't think this one is going to work out if that is the case. Couldn't really care one way or another but it is what it is. After nearly 40 years, it appears Steven Tyler is quitting Aerosmith. At least according to rumors. news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091109/ennew_afp/entertainmentusmusicaerosmithtyler_20091109175321

I think that when you see stuff like this, it's usually to get out of a contract or something. The band has not been doing well lately. I remember the following album after "Angel" had been a hit, they wouldn't even play the song. It's like they were sick of it after one tour. They've been washed up for years. They let the record company staff hit writers pick their songs for them. I can't remember the last time I saw them with writing credits on their own hits. "Dream on" is the only song I really liked by them. Regardless, Stephen Tyler's voice has always been liked by women. He'll have a following either way. It'll be funny as hell if you see Joe Perry and bandmates on American Idol trying to hook up with a new lead singer. Joe Perry's favorite band is supposedly Cheap Trick. Cheap Trick played for Joe's 50's birthday. Maybe Robin Zander will do guest vocals on their next album.

I think all of the 70s, Aerosmith Rocked! Than I think it was around 80 or 81, Perry quit and started the Joe Perry Project. At which time, Aerosmith got another guitarist and came out with another album which had a moderate hit I really liked "Lightening Strikes". I could have continued on with it that way because it was a nice heavy song, but it seemed like they were fading from sight until Perry came back and then the collaborated with Run-DMC on "Walk this Way". Which afterwords they came out with their poppy female targeting albums and rose to their biggest stardom. I've seen them twice and they put on good shows. But it seems like no one has cared in the last 10 years or so. Even when they go back to more rocking material, it doesn't seem to matter.
I appreciate what they accomplished and I will rock out to their better tunes whenever I hear them. But they sorta seem like the Rolling Stones now. A bunch of geezers way past their prime. I kind of hope this is a hoax, but if it isn't, Aerosmith should just call it quits.

I can't get too upset. When Benjamin Orr died and 3 of the Ramones died, that saddened me. I couldn't care less about whether Tyler or Perry play together or not. They had some good songs, but most get on my nerves.

Just heard Tyler entered rehab for painkiller addiction. Says he's been in chronic pain since he fell off the stage and got himself back to being hooked on painkillers.

If it was very recent, I'm betting Brittany Murphy's fate might have persuaded him. Defiant1 I think it was yesterday he checked in. If Brittany Murphy had anything to do with it (which now that you mention it, is feasible) than I think this is a smart move on his part for realizing how dangerous his situation is and how bad off he might be. Very often we think of rock stars as not seeing the light and paying the ultimate price. If Murphy's death allowed that to happen, with her being 32 and him about twice that, maybe it may have sobered his thoughts right up. Good for him for making a smart move.

Yawn. Despite having a few good songs, I don't like his singing and never felt the band was overly talented. df1
