The greatest comic book writer...EVER! I know some who would say otherwise, but I've always enjoyed his work. I may not dig everything he did, but those comics I did enjoy, I found to be way better than average.

I know some who would say otherwise, I raise my hand.... pick me... pick me. I couldn't care less about Alan Moore's writing. How difficult is it to come along to a genre that has been under the thumb of the comics code for 30 years and juxtapose what readers have been forced to read? Wow.... the anti-hero. The anarchist by his own words. Sorry. It doesn't entertain me in the least. Alan Moore mocks the very hobby he writes for and it goes over the head of most of his fans. He's read a lot and he injects what he's read into his writing. I'm not sure if that's intelligent writing or thumbing through an encyclopedia for obscure inspirations. It's a flip of the coin in my opinion. df1

Sometimes I almost feel the fact he was one of the first to do it and certainly most famously, has a lot to do with the disdain by some for his work.
I often feel like if it wasn't him, it would have been somebody else. I've never wanted to judge the merits of whether or not it is a good idea to make unheroic heroes, I just want to be entertained by comics and he does entertain me. He at least keeps me interested and wanting to read on.
I'll fully admit that maybe he shouldn't be given all the hype he has over the years, but at the same time after wading through tons of crap I could care less about over and over, I honestly feel he is at the very least a lot more talented than a great many other writers out there and I could do far worse than reading some of his comics.
I've never really felt the need to put him on a pedestal, but I'm not afraid to admit I've liked his work many times over. I really think we could do a lot worse than Alan Moore.
