Jim Starlin is somebody who I do not think is really a great artist at 1st glance. His proportions are often wrong. Some of his art looks simplistic or juvenile. Sometimes I think I can sit down and draw THAT well if I put my mind to it. But, I have to admit...I love Jim Starlin's style.
He should be the Cosmic Artist. His works on the Cosmic beings of Captain Marvel and Warlock alone were both high points when he drew them. His Captain Marvel run in my opinion is one great epic with psychedelic backgrounds and figures with titanic battles with some cool ass villains! It was its own kind of cool and I loved it.
I really wonder what Starlin is up to these days? I havent really seen or noticed any work that he has done in years. Does anyone know the scoop?
Regardless. I personally think Jim Starlin was one of the great and I wish I could own as well as see more because generally they are always enjoyable.

From the wikipedia..
"Most recently, Starlin is working on DC's "Death of the New Gods" miniseries, the first issue of which was published in October of 2007."

Another favorite Starlin cover of mine. His art reminds me so much of the 1970s. I mean, I feel like this could have been the glass art of a pinball machine. (I used to be a pinball wizard back in the day). He just has that nice mix of comic and fantasy sci-fi. Cosmic was definitely his playground.

Starlin's work seemed to shine the most when dealing with 3rd tier Super-Heroes. I don't know if the 1970's were just his time to shine or that fact that the editors hardly cared to spend much time editing Warlock and Captain Marvel allowing his artwork to become almost Sternako-ist.

Starlin is still working steadily for DC Comics. He recently did Mystery in Space for them as well as Death of the New Gods and some other Art based jobs.
I have always been a huge fan of his and finally met him a few years ago at Wizard World Philly. He IS the cosmic Artist. Captain Marvel, Warlock, Starlord, Dreadstar. Man he always did some cool stuff. His anatomy sometimes looks a bit off. but it works in the context of the stories he is doing.

If book is by Jim Starlin, then it's safe bet that one day I'll buy it. I love his work and he's one of the few creators that I know that can pretty much do it all write, pencil, ink, letter, color, and even paint.
IDW is going to relase (they might already released it) The Art of Jim Starlin a huge hardcover that is a 40 year retrospective on his work, and Jim Starlin has announced that his next project will be the long-awaited Breed III (along with collections of the previous 2 series) coming next summer from Image Comics.
