As an inker and a plotter I think Layton is pretty good.

I remember as a kid he was one of the first inkers me and my friends recognized as being a great as an inker. We were already talking about favorite artists back then and it was unusual to talk about inkers, but Layton had a style that was noticeable and brought impact to a book. You could recognize when he did the inks. There was the tell--tale signs that he did it. I especially remember when he teamed up with John Romita Jr on Iron Man and they literally did a classic run together. We all talked about how Layton was making the book one of the best out there.
It's weird to discuss inkers because they rarely have the glory the artist does, but if one deserves to be part of the discussion, certainly Bob Layton does.

amazing thing about that Classic Iron Man run, is that Layton to most people was the artist of the book and not JR JR. Which is pretty sad for romita.
