I actually got this news from my comic news widget down at the bottom of my board. Sometimes that thing has some interesting stuff. I dont look at it a lot, but I do look at it sometimes.
As far as Steve Gerber goes, I must say that many years ago, back when bulletin boards ruled and the internet had not yet caught on, I was on a comic forum, probably my 1st experience into comics being discussed on a computer. And Steve Gerber was actually a part of it. I remember that I posted something, I dont remember what and he actually sent me a couple of messages personally. I had actually carried on a few conversations with him on an old bulletin board message system. It was actually kind of cool.
I remember him as being someone who took himself and what he did very seriously. He seemed almost pompous, but actually he was pretty decent. I really dont remember too much what we discussed, but I remember he spoke a lot of the inner workings of creating comics. He was very proud of his work. At least, he certainly came off that way.
I dont really remember knowing much about his work. But I remember seeing his name on many works from the Bronze age. As noted in the article, he is noteworthy over Howard the Duck.
Although I really didnt know much about him and only had this limited experience with him, I was kind of taken back by seeing the headline that he had passed. I guess I was speaking to him when he was in his mid 40s which is close to what I am now. Pretty sad to die at 60. It didnt seem that long ago that I was speaking to him.
As the headline says....Steve Gerber dead at the age of 60.
