Hey Joe.... Why don't you join up so we can keep track of your posts? As for the message.... That's about a whole page more than I wanted to know about Walking Dead.... And $1825 is just ridiculous. I'd rather have something from the Silver Age in great shape than a book like this.

I have mostly been lurking in the shadows mostly...lol I dont have internet access from home and from work I dont have email access..makes it kind of hard to register. Yeah that is kind of rough. It's great you are coming by and lurking and posting and I appreciate that. It would just be better if you could be a member and your posts start showing up as new. As a guest it shows in the last 50 posts thread, but it doesn't mark your posts as new. You can't make an Yahoo email account and register using that email? How about when you're somewhere where you can get email? If you cant, no biggie, but if you can.....We think it would be cool to have you. I pretty much skipped the info and went to the comments...thats all Gizmodo is really known for. I'm one that thinks Walking Dead is overrated. Yeah I know it's wildly successful and everyone says it is cool and it has a tv show that just picked up a second season. I get all of that. But I took a late chance on it and picked up one issue and I thought it sucked. I read it in like 3 minutes and the art was basically scribbles. I know people will say I just picked up a fill in issue and the whole story is great. I feel like any comic I buy from your title should have the chance to make me want more. If it makes me want to buy the next issue, it's done it's job. If it makes me want to buy previous issues, it means I really like it. I didn't feel either. I think the zombie/vampire fad is going to eventually die a horrendous death due to over-exposure. I know its hot a shit now, but what about 5 years from now? I kinda think we will be over it all by then. And $1825 is just ridiculous. I'd rather have something from the Silver Age in great shape than a book like this. Yea, thats a nice chunk of change to be throwin down. See comment above. 5 years from now, will the show still be going? Will that book still be worth $1825? I seem to recall the same outrageousness with Ultimate Spiderman #1 a few years back and people getting carried away. I think the thrill is gone now. I think that is where this book eventually heads.

this is without question the best continuing series in comics. If you have not read even a single arc you shouldn't comment.
The Artwork is solid and very realistic in its continual portrayal of these characters and their continual loss of humanity.
Generally I will not pay much attention to Zombies or the like but this title is so far beyond your standard zombie garbage that it is in a class all its own.
Personally I only buy the trades. If you lived close to me "G" I would loan them to you and I bet it would be one of your favorites by the time you finished the second trade.
The fact that the cable show has become the highest rated cable show in history is very telling of the titles quality.
I am however happy that the one solo issue I ever purchased of this series happens to be the first issue.
to put it bluntly, this black and white title is for modern books, what Hulk 181 was for Bronze Age books. Even without a Wolverine level 1st appearance.
Also "G" there are no fill-in issues or Artists with this series. It is one long form story that you need to read from issue 1 to actually be able to follow. Each Arc is more intense than the one before it which is a rarity in comics.
Go buy the first TPB "G". If you do not enjoy it, I will buy it off of you. Including the tax.

this is without question the best continuing series in comics. If you have not read even a single arc you shouldn't comment. The comic bored the shit out of me before I read 5 pages. I picked up a collection starting with #1. I simply did not care what was gong on because it moved so slowly. I think the art sucks. I haven't had my curiosity remotely piqued by any random issue I've picked up and started reading. I also have no interest in the horror genre and least of all zombies. I don't get the fascination people have with horror or zombies. I don't even want to get it. To me, the comic is a waste of paper and from what I've heard the comic sells about the same number as any other indy. If this is the best comics have to offer, I'm glad I'm not buying any new comics. df1

I just wasted 16 minutes of my life watching the video on that link. The idiot falling out of the bed... then calling for help was too much. I was annoyed the second they focused on the little girl's back and just lingered with the camera. It's a zombie. I don't care. Move the story forward. It is slow paced, contrived, mindless, predictable. I cannot stand watching crap like that on TV. I'm actually sick of guns being used as the mechanism to forward a plot. This is exactly the type of program I'm sick of. Guns, Police, and stupid people in stupid conversations. There was nothing remotely compelling about the 16 minutes I watched. Suffering through that crap with fake Georgia accents to boot was tedious and annoying.

You see people hype it on boards like CGC forums and other comic websites and the next thing you know everyone is acting like it's the coolest comic around. Same thing is happening with books like Chew, Morning Glories, Skullkickers, etc.... I think to myself that Walking Dead might actually have a decent story hidden in there somewhere, but I have to say the one issue I decided to plunk down and try was downright dreadful. It did not make me want to buy it at all. I also understand that there has been to date no explanation of why the zombies even exist or came to be. I don't know how that concept escaped roughly 75 issues now. I think the zombie/vampire craze will eventually die down. It's reaching overexposure. Everyone is trying their hand at it in just different forms. Years from now this era will be remembered for zombies/vampires.

That statement right there explains fully why this title or any other horror themed title doesn't work for you.
Its not an Action film. Its not a superhero thing. Its a story about human beings set in a world filled with monsters where they are actually worse than the monsters.
As for when Rick falls out of the bed and can barely walk, I thought it was self explanetory when his partner was talking to him and put the flowers down to when he responded which turned out to be sometime in the future since all of the flowers were dead, showed that he was in a coma. In case you are not aware, people who wake from comas usually have to go through some physical therapy since their muscles tend to atrophy.
I agree on the little girl scene.
Rick, his wife and son and his partner are from Kentucky. They established that. In the books, none of the characters are from Atlanta. They were heading there from all points because that is where the Military was telling people to go. The art in the first 12 issues is by the original artist. His art is a little simpler than the Artist who does the series since issue twelve. The characters are drawn very realistically throughout the series, and really emote. As I stated in another thread, even though I am drawn towards artists who draw a certain way, I do not want every book to look like it was drawn by the same person. the art in WD is not slick. It is realistic but in a rough gritty sort of way. I cannot stand B/W comics but this one just has such strong writing that I got past that and was sucked into it.
Stupid people in stupid conversations? sounds like highly realistic characterization to me. Especially when you have a bunch of people who A.) do not know each other B.) do not trust each other C.) Have no clue as to what the fuck is going on, but need to depend on anyone they can in order to survive.
so when you consider those plot devices, the conversation makes sense and if you gave it half of a real effort, you would see that Rick becomes a strong sensible leader. even though his character goes through worse than most.
How would you act if you found yourself in that situation...as unlikely as the situation actually happening is.
Why are people into horror and Zombies?
Horror-people like to be scared getting scared pushes a rush of endorphins into the system which makes you feel energised. Or high depending on how you look at it.
Zombies- Did you ever read the bible? Books of Matthew talks about how when Christ died on the cross, the dead rose from their graves and killed all of the romans they came across for 3 days. Revelations talks about how the Dead will walk the earth in the end times. Funny the show is called the Walking Dead. which works both ways for the Revelations aspect, since Its a zombie show but its about the survivors just like the vague referance in the bible to the Dead walking the earth could also easily just mean the remeaining survivors.
So considering how religious most people in this country and around the world are, is it really a wonder why the subject is so facinating to them. Not to mention that as far as horror monsters go, a zombie at a distance and at first glance could get overlooked as being just another human...until its to late.
Walking dead is anything but predictable. Many of the charcaters that have already been introduced end up dead. Usually right after you get hooked on them.
also, trying to pick up a random issue of this series and figure out what is going on is about as sensible as reading a russian newspaper and not knowing how to read the language.
Like Y the last man or Duex Ex Machina, these are long form stories that only work if you read the whole thing. You cannot just decide to pick up a random issue and hope to understand it. there are no stand alone stories. no zombie of the week or any of that.
Same with 100 Bullets. You can read one arc and get a good story out of it, but unless you read all 100 issues, you will miss the actual story that builds up over the course of the series.
Who cares how many copies it sells. Its how its written that determines the quality.
Regarding guns moving the plot along. Well the guns overall are very limited in use in the Walking dead for reasons that they have already explained. But I also cannot stand police shows. Procedural police shows, Legal shows and the like. But you know, we live in the US where people love their guns and its all about law and order. I mean how many fucking NCIS shows do we need?
