Old thread, but I hate crap like that. Yeah, the thread is old. But I always look at threads on a message board as an opportunity to continue talking about something. Sure, whenever anyone ventures onto a message board, 99.9% of everything that is discussed happened very recently and are on the current page of boards. The problem is, nobody wants to continue talking on the not current page threads that show up as the newest. Then on some boards, if you post about a subject that has already been discussed, invariably there is always some jerk going "We've discussed this numerous time, please learn how to use the search function like a grown up." OR if you post to an old post it's like "we already talked about this." In either case, I'll side with the poster and not the condescending board spokesman who chastises the poster for coming to a message board and talking. I currently have 1,123 threads on this board but its been over a week since anyone posted. I can honestly say I know I created at least 95% of those threads. Not all of them are hits sure, but some of them went on for pages. My point is, it typically comes down to me starting something. Well, I sometimes sit around and wonder what should I post about? Sometimes it's just easier for me to try and bring something up again than it is to think about something new. Because to be honest, I would love it if someone came on here and posted about ANY of my 1,123 threads. Or better yet made a NEW one. This is not a complaint or a whine by me nor a chance for another searing beat down about how I ineffectively run my board. It's just in defense of bringing up an old post. I'm sick of shit glowing in comics. I'm sick of the plastic gradient look. I'm sick of colors not found together in nature. df1 Yeah, since I didn't bring up an example earlier in this thread, as recommended, I decided to bring up one to start critiquing and visually discussing what it is that bothers me or (us). It's not that I'm saying this piece of work is bad. Actually it's not. It's very good in fact. Better than MOST work I see these days. It's a nice piece of work for the typically poster style of comics we see so endlessly these days. And in terms of coloring. It's also better than most I see in this ever so plastic shiny world of comics of these days. It's for what it is, a nice Maaco paint job in this digital world of comics we have become adjusted to these days. The problem is, I've become completely jaded to this kind of coloring. I don't care how many times I've seen it or how well done it is or the page is. As many people as both pieces of work combine and get tons of fanboys to go "ahhhhh- so pretty!!!", it has the exact opposite effect on me. It's rare, but in this digital age of coloring. I sometimes see OUTSTANDING digital coloring! And it's throughout the entire book. And it's usually when these glowing and gradient effects hardly EVER appear in the entire book. And if it does, it might be a few times tops. If anything, it's used as the 1 time to add more intense drama. At those points, I think the technique for using it is PROPERLY applied. But too many times today, I'm glancing at 100's of pages at getting blinded by far too many of them. And I get annoyed when the buying/collecting and yes perhaps the old guard of comics doesn't voice their disgust with the blazing overuse or improper use of digital coloring. It's almost like I think there should be a recognized rock star of the computer coloring world and he should become a STAR just like all the artists, writers, inkers....etc. I think it's time for SUPERSTARS of coloring be recognized. And if so, perhaps trends can be changed and more can take on a competitive nature as there has always existed between artists and inkers. Instead of most colorist continue to do the 15 year flavor of the month coloring of constant glows and gradients. I'm talking true individual pieces of the picture, coloring. It's one reason I've always said we have the technology today to make the greatest comics in the history of comics. The problem is, there is only 1 flavor being recognized as the way to do it and it's just being beaten to death like a 50 year old dead horse.

I update old threads all the time, but I don't want to start a rant all over and see that I've retyped what I wrote two years ago. I think it's cool to add to old threads. I've elaborated a lot on colors. This just reminds me that I want to do my top 100 list of why I can't stand modern comics. Whenever I ponder it too long, I decide to focus on things I do like instead. df1

Unlike you, I see almost nothing good about this image. Why is the blue sword casting a glow down to the navel but the much brighter flame below barely gets past the crotch. I'm kinda wondering what makes eyes glow. A lazy penciler? You've got some characters leaping out and going on the attack while that one girl just stands casually poking out her hip. The colors are fucking horrid. This art is useless, cluttered shit. df1

But in terms of comics, I think this sucks balls.. But at the same time, I'm also sure that most fans today would stand against me/us and say this was a great piece of work. I've seen some muted examples of computer coloring lately that I tend to find more pleasant. Although I pretty much despise how comics are colored today, I'm sure it's here to stay. So, as I was saying, perhaps it would be cool if colorist were someone you could get to know like artist and inkers and writers again and perhaps a superstar colorist who didn't whore the craft into just the same shit we've seen for the past 15 years and actually did solid work was recognized, I think I would be for that more than I would just criticizing the medium in general. I remember a couple of colorists back in the old days that were considered favorites. I don't recall their names but I remember when a book was started and it had your favorite art team, it was even better when you seen the colorist name. I'm kind of for that again. Right now I have no idea of one colorist to the next. It all looks like a Maaco paint job to me.

Its better than seeing 9 days since a post. I always feel like the output I get is directly proportional to my input, so I tried to bring a few things up. These moments come and go. I guess it came. It's sure to leave me again soon. Sometimes I feel like I've done thought of just about every angle and topic there is to cover in comics. So, rather than banging my head trying to come up with a new one. I just decided some of these older ones weren't quite beaten to death. Rehash is better than quiet to me. Nope, this is NOT a bitching post or a Whining Post. Nope. Could give a fuck really. I have a hell of a lot going on at this very moment. But occasionally I do like to make attempts to drum something up. Sometimes I just feel responsible for attempting things at times.

Another thing I just noticed, that crotch is like a foot lower than most women's crotches.
