There are rumors that Optimus Prime will "die" (again) in the December's The Transformers #125 the problem is that Optimus Prime has died and came back to life so many times (and not just in comics) that to me his "death" in the IDW G1 Comic Universe no matter how it's done, it won't make me sad or even mad just like "In 2-5 years he'll be back" and thankfully it appears that I'm not alone in these sentiments but however no other character would have any effect as well, because they will come back to life. I think it's time that creators, companies, and fans to remember that death is sacred and it shouldn't be used as a bad PR stunt.

Yet another vice that has lost its impact in comics. Back in my day 2 big deaths were Captain Marvel and Phoenix. Captain Marvel never really became the star of Marvel that he could have been always staying in a 2nd tier status. Killing him off to Cancer seemed unique. Then the fact he stayed dead for literally a few decades made it even better. It seemed for real. It wasn't until they brought him back that it cheapened him and now he seems like a 3rd tier character even lower regarded than before his death.
I came into comics with the X-Men and literally watched the spectacle of the Dark Phoenix saga as a thrilling storyline that was riding a peak in popularity and creators who were hitting higher notes than other comics of the day. X-Men was THE comic back then. Wolverine hadn't yet been overplayed. The rest of the X-Men were enjoyable. Claremont and Byrne were THE creative team. X-Men #137 is about where the whole deal peaked. Followed with a few last hurrah issues. Once Byrne left, this title quickly turned back into being mediocre to slightly above average and to me at least, never regained what it once had. Phoenix dying was a sad moment. You felt sorry for Scott Summers. You felt the loss for the X-Men team. The fact she stayed gone a few years made it seem more real. Then she came back and cheapened the death. Never seemed to be the same character. The strength of what she was was gone. It was better off left untouched. It was more real.
Now death seems to happen multiple times a year. All the best characters have to die at least once. None of them stay gone. There is no feeling of loss or impact. Its always done with a feeling of when will the character return? What made those deaths work originally is there was a loss to the comics. It did have implications. Now it is nothing more than a quick sales gimmick that no one takes seriously.
Unless death means a character is gone at least 5 years or more, I think it needs to stop happening. How long before Johnny Storm comes back? Does anybody really care about Ultimate Spiderman? Captain America had been perfectly continued to go on without him. Every new upcoming death brings me a groan.
Just one more reason NOT to collect comics.

Yes people care about Ultimate Spider-Man. Not only that, but they are actually killing Peter off permanently. He is being replaced with Ben Reilly, who in the Ultimate Universe is Black, and not a clone. This will allow MArvel to totally re-explore the character in a fresh way.
could be good. Other than that, the only recent -death- that has worked for me is Cap. Bucky makes for a great Captain America.

Cap is one of Marvel's strongest books. Its consistently well done. The death of Steve Rogers was so good that there wasn't any need for him to come back. It all could have went on just fine without him. All the loose ends were being tied up. Bucky replacing Cap worked. What made it messed up in my opinion was when Steve Rogers did come back. There really wasn't a need for it. It kind of muddied up the fine work that had already been done. It cheapened the whole thing. The book still works better than almost anything Marvel puts out. I'm just saying it was unnecessary for him to come back.

Every new upcoming death brings me a groan. Just one more reason NOT to collect comics. Bah! Captain Marvel and Jean Grey's deaths and resurrections are nothing. Optimus Prime died in The Transformers #24 and came back to life in #42. He died again in #76 and in #80 (the final issue of the orginal Marvel series). Then again he died and came back to life in The Transformers: Generation 2 #12 (the final issue of that series and was a continuation of the orginal series). At Dreamwave he died in The Transformers: The War Within vol. 2 #1 which was a prequel to their first series and he was supposed to come back at the end of vol. 3 which was never finished. And that is just in comics! He also died in The Transformers: The Movie an animated movie in 1986 he came back and was killed off in a season 3 episode called Dark Awakening and he came back to life permanently in the season final 2 parter called The Return of Optimus Prime (which BTW was co-written by Marv Wolfman). Optimus Primal (who was the orginal Optimus Prime's descendant) also died and came back a few times he died at the end of season 1 of Transformers: Beast Wars and again at the end of season 1 and came back at the start of season 2. He also died at the end the season 1 of Transformers: Beast Machines (the sequel series to Beast Wars) and died again at the end of season 2, which was that series' finale. And a different version of Optimus Prime died and came back to life in The Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen live action movie. That is just Optimus Prime's deaths and resurrections in the major USA fiction and that is not including the Japanese TV shows and manga and the TV shows in the last 10+ years and it doesn't include Meagtron and Starscream who are just as bad if not worse in the death and return from the dead department.
