What was your biggest comic related moment of 2007? It doesnt necessarily have to be a comic you purchased or sold, but it could be. But it can also be an event or activity you experienced that was directly related to comics.
For me, I didnt exactly have a great comic year this year. I tried to. Certainly my comic year was almost entirely the 1st half of this year. The 2nd half has been almost completely and sadly, non-existent for me. Money and lack of free time became the biggest reasons.
For me, the most outstanding moments was probably down to 3 things. Starting with the best:
1) Attending the Charlotte convention. Yeah, I know others get to see big shows all the time and may have rated this mediocre at best. But this was my 1st big show in 11 years. Things seemed bigger and I was really surprised how packed it was. It made me feel like Comics still lived very strongly with a lot of people. However, the quality of the books as well as the sheer lunacy of trying to visit an artist was a drag. Its sad for me to say, but attending the Charlotte con this year was probably my biggest comic moment of 2007.
2) Opening and closing my ebay store. I mentioned it in another thread reflecting on 2007 that I opened and eventually closed my ebay store. Like I said, I dont think I did too bad. I had almost great months in January and February. But a couple things really slowed me down. One was getting promoted to my new position at my job which had me working tons of overtime and dead tired when I got home. I just didnt have the time or the energy to keep making new advertisements like I really needed to. And second is when they changed the postal rates. It almost got stupid trying to make it work after the postal rates changed. Sales dropped almost immediately. I honestly felt like if I could have remained dedicated to it with my free time what it was a year ago, I could have been doing fine today. But, I got to a point where I didnt do nothing with it for a couple of months and sales slowed to a crawl. It made more sense to close it than to leave it open. It was a real learning experience and Im glad I did it. But I have discovered its not worth doing unless you can give it your all or unless you only want to put a book up here and there. Stores are serious only need apply.
3) Starting this message board. Im hoping eventually this will be the #1 thing I did in 2007. I really do. Im looking forward to completing 2008 with my message board still intact. I knew nothing about doing this. It wasnt that hard to put the board together, but learning all the ins and outs and going through growing pains and paying my dues have been the hard parts. Im still am happy and optimistic with it. Like the name of the board says "You gotta start somewhere". And that's what happened with me and this board this year. I'm happy I did it.
