A few books graded by these guys have been appearing on eBay. comicgrading.com/cbgc/cbgc_contact.htmlSince they are located in the metro-Atlanta area, I went on a trek to find them today. Unfortunately, I wrote the address down wrong and my GPS took me to a grocery store instead. Although it's the wrong direction, it's not really all that far from my work. I think I may try again on a weekday after work. I asked a former While on my Golden Age dealer friend Sean if he he'd ever heard of them. He used to live in that area. He said "no". It's quite evident that their "cases" are thin pieces of shit. While driving, I was thinking I should design a case something along the lines of a Fortress case. I think they had a patent on their case. I'm not sure how different a modified design would need to be. I like the idea of two transparent sheets, two layers of Mylar, and stackable gaskets. All could be prefabricated for different size comics quite easily. Screws to assemble it might not work for a sealed assembly. Maybe some kind of Thermal heat seal? Still pondering that portion. df1

I think it's great they live close to you and I think it would be cool to check out a comic grading company, I have to say the site you provided leaves a lot to be desired.
1st of all, other than cheaper prices and saying they will have a transparent grading scale, they leave me scratching my head. I mean, WHO is doing the grading? They don't give you any idea that they have any kind of experts grading comics. Just that they offer a cheaper service with grading rules while others grade with opinions.
What's further discouraging is they only have 1 tiny picture of their slab and it cannot be enlarged. Looking at the picture, which does NOT give a good look, the slab does not look attractive at all. I have to give CGC props because out of all the different upstart grading companies that have popped up, their slabs look the best. I'll give PGX a reasonable but less pretty 2nd. This CBGC slab may be the worst looking one I've seen so far. And I can barely see it!
I tried going to Google to find a better look. Funny, using their own name, they come up as 4th on the search. Furthermore, there aren't any other supporting websites that point to them or any of their work. When I looked at images, I only found 1 other picture. Another small one that couldn't be expanded (except by your own efforts) and once again looked very unattractive.
I don't know how long they've been open. I would guess not long. But I'd say their presentation is lacking. The website is lame, the case looks lame and you can't easily see anything. Furthermore, they don't give you any assurance that you have any real professionals grading your comics.
Oh one last thing, if they discover restoration, they'll send it back to you no cost MINUS YOUR SHIPPING COSTS ungraded!!! Who wants that? At least if it comes back with a restoration label, you and everyone else knows. I find that one good thing about restoration labels. At least its revealed to everyone else and they know it up front. If this company sends it back to you unslabbed, you know its restored and you might try and pass it off as unrestored knowing full well its not.
If you do visit them, I think it would be interesting but I expect them to be kind of slow and you could probably talk a lot of enhancements with them. Hell, I'd feel better if they named you one of their graders. At least I'd know its someone whos looked at comics for 30+ years. With them, I have no idea!
If you do create a slab, make sure it makes the comic look attractive. Really, the case is one thing and it has a lot to do with it. But the paper label is quite another and where I find these guy's appeal lacking. That label they have is pathetic! I wouldn't want my proud books with them.
I know all about the unhanded backwashing that goes on with CGC and their questionable grading tactics. At least I feel they are in the ball park. I hear even worse about PGX. But even still, over the years, there is a slight acceptance to their comics when slabbed. I would prefer having a CGC over a PGX. I've never owned a PGX, but if given one, I wouldn't turn it away.
Anybody else, I'd feel you'd almost be better off taking it out of the slab. If people don't feel the company it represents is legit, you may as well make your own grade and slap it on it.
These guys need to up their game or I doubt they'll be around very long.

I also looked up their address. Three businesses are listed at being at that address. All appear to be owned by a husband and wife.

Was going to make a post about grading and noticed this thread. Did you ever go to this place or did you ever hear or learn more about these guys?

Was going to make a post about grading and noticed this thread. Did you ever go to this place or did you ever hear or learn more about these guys? No. I have to dig up the info again. I've had a lot of personal things going on plus I'm trying to keep mileage down on my vehicle. I've been in the area several times, but I didn't have the address info with me. I'll respond to your other post at a future time. df1

I looked at their website again last night from the link you put up and it didn't look like they made 1 improvement to the site. I still only see one shitty picture.
They sure do promote hard!

Static web pages are almost useless. If you aren't going to update one, expect the proportionate amount of feedback. Virtually nothing. df1
