Why does the upcoming movie Chappie remind me of Magnus Robot Fighter without Magnus?

I only seen a commercial previee of it. The synopsis seemed to be robots had taken over the world. They got this 1 robot. Noy sure if he was captured or found damaged. It indicsted they reprogrammed him to have human thoughts and emotions and was using him to fight against the regular robots. Reminded me of 1-A.The only thing appeared to be missing was Magnus himself. At least thats how I felt when I seen the commercial.

I wasn't real impressed with the trailer. The name was annoying. I can't stand British & Australian slang.
Maybe it was a swiped idea and a "Magnus" type character is a surprise in the plot.
I was never a fan of Magnus or most of the other Gold Key characters. I was a fan of the way Jim Shooter wrote them.

Yes and no. There was no Magnus. No human defending against robots. Because of you, I did think about it the whole movie. It could be the origin of 1-A I guess. It's not a futuristic environment, but the street thugs reminded me of Gophs.
