Let me paint a picture.
A comic shop that sells everything at cover price. No discounts. They order heavy and always have back issues on their comics wall. You can pick most mainstream Marvel & DC ongoing series and buy last year's issue at cover price... off the wall, not in back issue bins.
They deal with a lot of walk in traffic. No pull service that I know about. Statues, variant, TPBs... they have a lot of everything.
I was driving by their store last night. I stopped in the see Legion of Superheroes #37 (Jim Shooter). I can't find it. I ask the lady behind the counter. She say "it's selling real well, but we should have some." She looks, they are out. She tells me they have 10 copies coming in on reorder. She says "I'm going to have to increase my reorder."
In my opinion, this book is a success. If it was some discount comic book store selling to cheap speculators, I might think it was just a speculator book. It wasn't! This book sold out at a full price store that rarely sells out of current titles within a year. They live off of selling year old "new" comics.
Kinda odd. Now I have to look elsewhere.
