Thanks for replying. I shut some things down further this weekend. I'm really wanting to downsize my footprint online.

It looks crappy, but I made a quick image w/imagemap to let people find your board.
I'm just tired of my daily routine. It won't change if I keep things the same.

It won't change if I keep things the same. df1 What happened to the advice of just keeping it open and treating it as a blog? Its not something you have to mess with everyday. People still come looking for it and when they see its not open, its kind of unsettling (I know you don't care). All I'm saying is, just leave it up and don't check on it for a long time. At least others can enjoy it if they wanted to. I've done nearly quit about 50 times since I've had this board open and I've put it in maintenance mode twice and stared walking away in the eye good and hard. I'd consider your board much more successful that mine. You have a tendency to shut a lot of it down. When its a lot more open, there is a lot to see. I think the times I did feel like quitting I knew after I shut it down I would want it back eventually. When all is said and done it is a small part of what has transpired in a life. Even if it is not currently consuming your world, it still has merit. I'd rather keep it open and check in on it from time to time than shut it down or worry myself over making it better than what it is. Being nonchalant about it has made things a lot more peaceful with me. Even thought you're currently about my only poster. I still feel its worth keeping open. Just me. I've seen you do this before so like before I hope its only temporary.

I've seen you do this before so like before I hope its only temporary. It just something I want to get away from. My workload at the job is causing me to get home late and the thought that I need to check it to make sure spam ads aren't there makes me irritated by it more. Maybe the last three spammers expedited my current decision. I'm actually at a point now where I'm deciding which comics I should just give away. I like the info being out there, but it's not really possible to separate myself from the day to day upkeep. If I thought it was permanent, I'd just delete the board. I may bring it back by the end of next week. People have always wanted the info there, but they don't consider how much of my personal time it took to compile the info and maintain it for 8 years. Right now, I need a break. Too much going on. df1

I hear all of that. It is a lot of work even if you do things at a leisurely rate and don't update it much. There is a lot of work involved just getting your board setup and running. Then to add info and topics to try and get it rolling. And then in your case the checklists and bonus info. There is an awful lot of work. People just want to show up and be entertained. They take for granted just how much is involved.
Just posting to bring topics to the table takes a little bit of work. My board is dead but I still check out the headlines and bring topics here when I feel it is worthy. Often I'm grabbing text, copying links, saving photos to my pc, uploading to my photobucket, linking to photos, formatting originating topic and finally typing supporting text and viewpoints to hopefully get a topic started. Often I'm lucky if anybody responds. So its back to the drawing board and repeating again. Its an endless cycle. Over 5 years now and I have over 1,100 topics. Thats over 200 topics a year on average. And often for what?
So I understand your concerns and beefs and so on. My thought though is it is a quality board with good material and its like being an artist. You've put the work into it and now it stands on its own. You do have a few loyal members who make it a point to come by and post. I wish I had a couple of them. In it's entirety its an accomplishment and stands in your portfolio of accomplishments. True, there is far superior and other things you would be prouder of. Far more important and presssing matters for you to attend to. Our lives can only be spread but so thin. There is always need for adjustments. However, its completed work and it involves only minimal time to just keep it open and clean for those who want to to enjoy it. You don't have to really actively participate. Put another "Gonna be a slowdown" message up there and leave the doors open. People will come and go and mostly go without a peep. But a few will keep things going here and there and eventually your mood might change, winter hits, more inside and downtime finally happens and something elsewhere happens to keep you talking to people you've made relationships with in some small form over the years. You can just pick it back up at any time and keep going.
The problem I have with this is when you allow yourself to shut things down, often it can grow from there. Originally you didn't think you would stay away, but since you started, you actually do. And it spreads to other things, like visiting other boards you used to frequent (like mine). And before you know it, its just all thrown into a garage where it gathers dust and becomes forgotten about. I think the checklists alone are worthy for inclusion on the internet. Worthy additions to the realm of helping enthusiasts with their pursuits. Not to mention the discussions that have taken place over the years. There are nuggets there. I just hate to see it all go to waste. Especially when I can appreciate the amount of work it takes to create something that good. When I say that message boards are really becoming obsolete I really mean that. But to see a board like yours disappear to me just hurry's that era up. I'd rather see other suckier boards go than yours.
Just my 3 cents.

When I say that message boards are really becoming obsolete I really mean that. But to see a board like yours disappear to me just hurry's that era up. I'd rather see other suckier boards go than yours. Just my 3 cents. I've looked at it from every angle. I've had 8 years to do that. There are web sites that I thought were great and they've disappeared. The life span of all this is limited in my opinion. As the new technology rolls in, Proboards is going to have to adapt or lose find a new way to make money. I've shifted my checklists from free hosts to free hosts as the old ones go away. The free hosts are havens for people creating sites with malware so it becomes a logistical nightmare to have all the user pages policed. Most of my checklists are one web hosting business decision away from being gone anyway. It's harder and harder to find free web hosts that allow FTP upload. You don't see updates to my Angelfire pages very often because it's a royal pain in the ass. My Charlton checklist was growing so large that I had to split up the html. You are loading 27 web pages when you go there now. A lot of what I've posted has been picked up by other sites. Things just have to change in my life. They are going to change whether I want them to or not. Insanity is doing the same thing the same way and expecting different result. 20 years ago I was hanging around rock clubs, roadies, and musicians and working in retail. It was a very interesting time in my life. 14 years ago I was drawing a cartoon that was being published and I was making web pages unrelated to comics. I was preaching internet security and firewalls. People acted like I was a raving lunatic for saying a computer needed a firewall. One of my sites had over a half-million visitors thank to it getting exposure on TV. I was getting emails from rock stars and TV/Movie celebrities. I gave up that site because the internet was changing. How can you preach privacy and security with the govt. itself being the biggest advocate against it? My messageboard and comic web sites were inspired by the fact that I collected comics and they retained value. The bulk of my collection isn't retaining value and it takes up a lot of floor space. It's become more of an obstacle than an enjoyment. Now the web is shifting to phones, mobile devices, and apps. I'm not interested in any of them. The learning curve is more steep. The competition is greater. I'm even tired of working in manufacturing. I'm actually tempted to work for a charity and abandon all of the "possessions" I own. When the girl I loved died, I became a hoarder to some degree. I wanted a connection to anything that had sentimental significance. Objects equated to memories. When my dad died, it woke me up. He started throwing away things I'd seen him hold onto with pride for decades. As I get older, I want to have less clutter of things I don't look at or use. Right now the site is down so I can refocus what I want to do if anything. Simple as that. df1

Just wanted to update you guys about what is going on with me. 2012 has been by far the worst year of my life, but I finally had something good happen to me.
About 2 hrs ago I was hired by a pretty big company. What's great, besides being employed again for the 1st time since May, is it ties in a lot of my background with my recent banking background and combines the two. It'll be challenging, but it keep my career in this field going and perhaps will open bigger and better things for me down the road.
The pay isn't that much, but with a little luck and struggling, it may be just enough for me to survive. Hopefully I will find ways to make other money, overtime or promotions and raises. In any event, it gives me a fighting chance to save my house.
I'm not out of the woods yet. Come next year I will have another life changing announcement that will further change my life and make me a different person than I am today and I was just months ago. Eventually I will announce here what that is, but the time is not here yet.
It's been a tragically bad year for me and I've searched my soul for answers and prayed for something good to finally happen. I appreciate anyone and everyone who has reached out to me in some way. And I've learned not to take anything for granted. I truly believe I will never be the same person I was before this year happened. And when all is said and done, that might turn out to be a good thing. Sometimes you just need to be taught valuable lessons. Never take life for granted. It can turn on you at a moment's notice.
Thanks for your support.
