Let's face it, comics are hard to keep up with. Unless you remained focused, dedicated and throw out a lot of cash, it's hard to keep up with what is going on with a lot of characters and ultimately you might start losing the big picture. I know this has happened to me.
From about 1990 - 1997, I was on top of the comic world. I was reading tons of books and magazines dedicated to comics. I was attending and at times doing conventions. I spent countless hours talking to people about what was going on. When you see the whole picture, it's a thing of beauty. Not only can you see how a comic relates to the big picture, you can also know the significance of the book in terms of being a hot item before most others ever realize it. A great advantage in flipping.
But, for me, I lost my way when I quit collecting in 1997 due to financial reasons. I came back in 2001 and I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe how much things had changed. And I couldn't believe how much I couldn't understand what I was seeing and what it meant. It's been ever since, that I've been swimming in a world of uncertainty when it comes to current comics.
There have been brief moments when I though I was starting to get the picture. The magic was appearing again and I was getting excited about upcoming events because I knew what it meant and how it affected the big picture. But unfortunately, my economic situation has me on the outside looking in. And having not purchased a comic in 6 months, Im clueless to what is happening now.
I cant be the only one with fuzziness sometimes. Take for instance if you love collecting Spiderman and that is your focus, but yet you have an appreciation for other books and from time to time pick a few up, just how are you going to know what is going on with say....Batman? Well, unless you start reading a ton of Batmans or get a good rundown somewhere else or from somewhere else, you'll be kind of clueless about what is going on with Batman, while being real good at knowing what's going on with Spiderman.
Well, that's the idea with this thread area. I plan on putting thread areas out for most all of the major characters and those who can chime in on where the story is at now, please do! This is a chance to catch those on the outside who might be interested, up to date. Naturally, this area is only as successful as the people who put into it. But regardless, it is a starting point and it's an area that you can contribute to, if you feel you want to.
I'm only going to list the more major stars and teams. If you feel someone or some team needs to be added, let me know or start one up yourself. My board has always been your board. Make it as good as you want to make it.
It's not necessary to discuss every issue that comes out. We don't need to spoil things for everybody who may want to read a particular book. But offering a brief summary of the major points of the character or group and what the major plotlines are would be ideal. If you want to critique a particular book and discuss that. Go right ahead. But remember, it's not really as much about a particular issue as it is getting people up to speed on where the character or group is now.
I know going in, this area sounds like a REAL longshot. But, I plan on keeping it up a long time. Even if I have to find my way back to comics and start doing it myself I will. But unfortunately I cannot right now.
If you know something about a character and want to discuss what's going on with that character now. Go right ahead.
