This would be one new comic I would actively try and get the rest of. One of the best comics I've seen from the past 5 years. bleedingcool Bleeding Cool And Finally… Chris Weston Has Finished The Twelve Visually, this comic looked much better. I felt like it still had problems. I almost started to buy it, but decided against it. How long ago did #1 come out? It's been awhile. I guess they were itching to do that TPB so decided to spend the money to finish it. df1

I guess they were itching to do that TPB so decided to spend the money to finish it. df1 I would normally not recommend a book lightly these days. I see way too much shit out there to just spew out "this is good, try it" quotes. Way too much stuff is done half-assed and something is lacking. But pound for pound, I'd say this is one of the most enjoyable comics I've seen from the past 5 years. The story alone is worth the read as a group of 12 heroes from the 40's are more or less time warped into present day and all left wondering how to deal with the current world and issues and how their past lives have gone on to haunt them. The characters have great personality and give a sense of wanting to learn about each and every one of them. As each issue unfolds, we slowly learn about them. Many find out things they never knew. Many find the people they cared about have long since died. Many feel they are alone. And last but not least a mysterious person among the 12 is doing ghoulish things and people are starting to put the clues together and are narrowing in on the main suspect. You could tell something big was getting ready to happen. The book was just starting to climax when it stopped coming out. Around issue #8 I believe. It happened to coincide with me quitting my job and no longer able to buy comics. Which was around October 2008. So the 1st issue came out in early 2008. I thought the series was long finished and I kept looking for it and then discovered it never finished. It quit when I did. I've been eagerly awaiting its finish since. The art is impeccable. Done with a lot of details and things going on in every panel. You can look at the panels and see little elements that lend to it's appeal and storytelling. It feels old school in terms of storytelling and new school in terms of what can be done today when someone puts a lot of time and effort into the craft. It doesn't look modern cheesy, plastic, over-digitized or overcolored. It's just a well done piece of work by all parties involved. I wouldn't say this lightly. I wouldn't try to do this unless I could honestly feel this way. Especially these days.... But for me personally, This was the best comic I read in the past 5 years.

Oh and the characters have a sense of old school heroics to them and are miffed that things aren't so heroic today. They find its not so easy to be heroic today as it was back in the 40's.

The art was nice, but it did look plastic to me. It seemed equally pretentious from what I recall. I seem to remember a scene with heroes swooping down and their chest poked out in the fashion "look at me". I'm not saying I couldn't enjoy it, but I'm not motivated enough to try. In some ways, I've outgrown superheroes that make no effort to put plausibility or science behind what they do. I want fantastical abilities, but I don't want to just blindly accept it going forward. I want writers to actually think about "what could/would make this scenario possible" They don't need it to be over-detailed for the sake of showing me a schematic of a heroes battle armor. I would like comments in casual passing that something scientifically sound allowed for the situation to exist. df1

I originally went in not knowing if the art pleased me or not. I'm tired of the overdone, overstylistic Image type art. But as I read this I found the art to be a great fit for the book. I really think it is a solid piece of craftsmanship. The story seems very plausible and believable. I think that's one reason I liked it so much. I can't or won't talk you into buying it obviously but I think this is a lot better than almost all the other crap we bitched about a lot.

I've never understood this mentality. It seems to me to be a justification to fuck up as much as I want today....

Nostalgia is often the enemy of good comics.

It's their way of saying, "Don't compare us to people who are more talented, you hurt our chances of getting better." df1

I went on a huge rant after you showed me that tweet. Ron Marz retweeted some of my annoyed replies.

Marz thinks we are the same person. ;D
