There is going to be a show this coming Sunday in Richmond VA. It should be full of $1.00 boxes. I think they are going to have a bunch of guests this time too signing.

Good to see you Azbatx. We have missed your needed insight around here. Are you still working the comic shop in Richmond? If so, tell us what you know!
Anyway, about Richmond. My 1st thought would be that I probably wouldnt make it. With Xmas fast approaching, its been very hard for me to spend money on comics lately. However, I mentioned it to my wife and she seemed up for the idea. So...I just might go! I dont know yet though. Dont hold me to it. I used to get post cards for their show, but no longer do, so I dont even know where the new location is. You'll have to fill me in.
They always seem to have bad timing on their shows. If I am not mistaken, they had one show during Mother or Fathers day? Probably a good time to go to the show actually as a lot of people probably couldnt make it and maybe it made the dealers have to wheel and deal more.
Anyway, dont be a stranger buddy! Keep us posted!

Me & Azbatx went to the Richmond show today. Usually we kill in the .50/$1 boxes, and even though there was a lot of it,there wasn't a whole lot to scoop on. I found some good $1 magazines though. I picked up about 100 of'em from 1 guy and 20 from another guy. This is the 1st time I really noticed mags at the show, especially in $1 boxes.I do pretty good with mags in my Ebay Store, now I just gotta get them all listed! I grabbed some mint condition Mouse Guard #1 1st Printings from a guy for $10/each.,he also had some mint Amazing Spider-Man #36 (World Trade Center Issue) for $20 each. I'm gonna send 'em all into CGC this week. The Mouse Guard #1 has been pulling $150-$200 in CGC 9.8 and the Spider-Man is $100-$125 in 9.8...so if they come back in high grade,it'll be a home run and a trip that was well worth taking!

Damn...I miss comic shopping. When Xmas gets over, Im going to go back on a buying spree. Me and my wife almost went to this show. I guess we didnt talk about it enough and I really dont have a lot of expendable money to spend on comics these days.
But let me get past Xmas. I havent really did any major comic shopping since Charlotte Heroes Con. I REALLY owe it to myself to get back into it. I miss it bad.

I found this show to be a little lame this time. Mostly due to dealers bringing the same stock as usual. I wish they would add in new stuff. It would be nice to have more dealers as well. I spent a grand total of $2 at this show. Nothing really appealed to me. Hopefully the next one will be better.

I'm trying to figure out why someone would sell Mouse Guard #1 (1st) for only $10. Doesn't that go for a lot more than that, even raw, on eBay? Hell, I'd be happy to have one of those Spidey's at that cost. The WTC issue is a book I still don't have that I would like to.

Me and Azbatx made the trip to Richmond today for the quarterly comic show. I was kind of worried if it was gonna be worth the trip this time. With gas the way it is,it's a $50 round trip and I've been up there a few times and only spent $50-$100 and it made for a wasted trip. Today was definitely worth the trip. Az worked the room on the .50/$1 boxes...a few notables for him..these were .50 cents...Rai #1,4....30 days of night #2,3 (2 copies)...a Magnus Robot Fighter #12 for $1...and a Magnus/Predator TPB for $4!! I bought about 90 books out of a guys .50 boxes...alot of Sailor Moon comics issues #2,3 (about 10 copies each)...that'll bring atleast $10 each on Ebay were the highlights of that buy...other than that I spent $5 on another guy and that was it for me and comics. I was too busy worrying about some original art a guy had. I talked with this guy at the last show and he told me he had a doublepage splash from Hulk:Future Imperfect by George Perez. He didn't know if he wanted to sell it,but was thinking about it.I tried to call him a few weeks ago to see if he would atleast bring it to the show so I could check it out,and I only got his answering machine. So I left a message with him,but never heard anyhting back so I was hoping he would bring it. Well he brought it.I never read the story, but I think it was from issue #1 with the Hulk walking into this room where there is all this superhero memorabilia (like a museum)...Magnetos helmet,Novas helmet, among a bunch of other stuff, including Supermans outfit! (This was drawn outside edge of the piece and was cropped out from the actual comic, but it was cool to see it originally drawn in there!)...The guy said he already had an offer of $1000 on it from another dealer in the room, first thing this morning. I don't know if it was true or not,but he then pulled out an original Jack Kirby page from Thor #173. He said he didn't want to sell it but would listen to offers, and mentioned $1000 for it. I called a buddy of mine that knows original art way more than I do,and he said $1000 was deal for it.So I tried to play it off like I was only kind of interested in it and offered the guy $800 for it. He said well if it doesn't sell today then maybe. We were getting ready to leave and I knew I would regret leaving without it,so I offered $900.I knew that was almost all the money I had so I was hoping he'd go for it. No such luck,so I said, would you sell it for $1000? He said yes. I had $1004 in my pocket. Az was tapped out and I didn't want to have to borrow money from the dealers that I knew in the room,so it just did work out! Here's a 2-piece image... a 6 panel page with Thor in 5 of them, and a decent looking Kirby chic in the other! It's got some good dialogue going on,with Thor showing how much of a noble character he is in the Marvel Universe. And as a bonus,it's inked by Bill Everett! Which I didn't know til I got home and looked up the issue in Overstreet.I sent a pic to my buddy in Charlotte and he says it's probably a $2500-$3000 piece. That'd be great if he's right! So the trip was definitely worth it today! A good way to start off heading into Charlotte this coming weekend!

I thought $3000 sounded high, but Kirby's art may be getting more than when I last looked. Knowing it's inked by Everett is big selling point as far as I'm concerned. I was thinking Sinnott was doing the inking around then. I'd much rather have something Everett touched. cfs
