I don't keep up with VEI, so I don't know the latest news from them. But being a major outsider and just an observer, it appears the news of Dark Horse bringing Shooter back to work on Valiant characters was a major blow to their efforts and leaves them scrambling to keep their name meaningful. After having the rights to the remaining characters for so long and offering barely more than reprinted material, VEI seemed to have taken too long to capitalize on their properties and make a name for themselves as the continuing creators of Valiant. And now Dark Horse comes in and just steals all the thunder in one sweep. Now Dark Horse appears to be the Official coming of Valiant reborn and VEI must now huddle together and do something of their own before they just become totally insignificant.
I've even heard suggestions that VEI try and collaborate with Dark Horse and it was brought up in the Shooter interview. Someone asked if this ruled out Shooter working with VEI in the future? He basically said he wasn't working for them and I wish them well. With that, Shooter swiped another hand across the face that is known as VEI.
What is VEI to do now???

They sent a message to Ryan at the VCS they were working on new books. I think they've lost most of the momentum and good will they had when they acquired the Valiant characters. Unless they get a huge cash infusion through licensing, I doubt they'll ever amount to anything. Of course, I've been wrong before.

They sent a message to Ryan at the VCS they were working on new books. Not to belittle VCS as I've personally been there a time or two and had no problems there. But Dark Horse and Shooter announce at SDCC and VEI is sending messages to VCS??? It just doesn't seem as official.

It seems last-ditch to convince someone they're still going to be publishing comics. They used a word, 'feverishly' or something as far as how hard they're working on new books, but I couldn't remember the word so I left it out of my above post.

Just seems you are trying to string the known fanbase along by sending them direct messages as though it is some kind of press release, but in fact it is not so nothing is officially on the line and very credible and has your reputation on the record as say a press release on a well known comic news covering site or a news conference at a convention would. It seemed when I did pay attention to VEI, they was always a big secret and didn't want to tell anybody anything. Now they are sending emails to message boards? You know, part of me is finding this very amusing.

I think their first move should be to tell the truth. Establish some integrity as human beings, Upon doing that successfully, they can work on making comics and we might believe something they say.

Thinking that a whisper to a messageboard admin is going to promote your company is just idiotic. Defiant1

If they stepped outside their own bodies and looked at how idiotic they look, they'd just admit it and quit pretending to have a clue what they are doing. Defiant1

Who was it Dino that was part of that group? He has like a couple thousand posts over at vf.com and then the next thing you know he and VEI are all quiet and don't say anything to anyone about anything and this was to the people that wanted nothing more than you to get it going and be your loyal fanbase. It just seemed like from that point on, everything was a secret. It was okay to a point, but then they just kept being secretive with no news coming out and not admitting to anything and it just got to be like......come on. So do you think Dark Horse announcing Shooter doing Valiant characters for them was the biggest nightmare VEI could have?

I honestly don't think about VEI anymore. I may not think of them again, unless they give me a reason to.
