I don't want to bite the hand that is feeding me. I think this is the best news to come out of comics in oh.....10 years or so, if not more. I'm excited about the possibilities. And as far as the dread of going to a comic store, I dread that too....that is why I got into DCBS which quite honestly was the best experience I could possibly have. I preorder the books and get deep discounts and they come right to me. So whenever things get right again, Im going back to that.
No Im not turned off by the news, I'm rather excited about that. Maybe its the reaction that is turning me off. I guess I am a bit amazed how Valiant fans suddenly turned their loyalty over from VEI to Dark Horse when they were so embittered over VIP. I guess I'm suddenly seeing everyone acting like this is Valiant reborn when all Im seeing is Magnus, Solar and Turok reborn. The fanboys seem to be creaming themselves in hopes of this being the next coming of Valiant.
Thats why Im curious exactly which directly Jim is going to take this. I guess if he wanted to he could try and piece it all back together one piece at a time and recreate the whole Valiant experience again. But I on the other hand hope that isn't the case. In fact, Im getting a bit sick of the Valiant angle. I know I'll be just as much a fanboy as everybody else once this stuff starts coming out. Im going to do whatever I can to make sure I get my copies and read along too. I'm very excited about that. But damn, sometimes I almost wish the Valiant characters were left out. Not really, but in some ways yes. No doubt the 2 headliners in this return is Magnus and Solar which happened to be 2 of my favorite characters from Valiant as we knew it. But Im not sure what kind of entity this is going to take. Is this going to be Magnus and Solar as characters doing their own thing or being part of a larger cohesive universe. Knowing Jim is great with the big picture, Im sure its the latter. But Im not sure its going to be the universe we remember or even better, what the old fanboys want. Im actually hoping this takes a life and direction all its own and resembles very little to the Valiant as we knew it. Because Im starting to feel like before long Im going to see MOTA tell everyone how this should go down and he should be hired to write for Jim because he has a clearer picture. Its the Valiant angle Im getting sick of. I'm actually hoping this is written in a way that ends any connection with Valiant and forges on as its own entity.

I think essentially that Valiant will be dead & worthless after Dark Horse relaunches. They may want to reprint the Valiant stuff, but I'm thinking it won't be included at all in the future stories. I hope you're right. Some of the BS I'm reading by nerds getting boners is making me want to puke. Suddenly everyone who never had much to do with either is now teabagging to the extreme.

I'm actually wishing for another big announcement elsewhere over something else so their is 2 things to be excited about in the future. Wouldn't that be something? 2 things to be excited about in the comics world! Is there any other buzz going on at the moment or this it? What about the announcement that Marvel bought the rights to Marvelman? I doubt that anything Marvel does with it will even approach what was done with it earlier. It would be nice not to see rehashing and bring back plain old original creativity. You have to remember what made Miracleman great was it was an original idea at one time. Same thing with Valiant. At one point, Valiant was original. I'm extremely happy with Jim Shooter and what he and Dark Horse are doing. There is a mind that can have original ideas. Unfortunately, they are dealing with existing properties. Which doesn't dampen it for me, it is what it is. And this is the best possible scenario in my opinion with anything being done with any Valiant character. But it would also be nice to see a comic or a group of comics or a company bring up new material never before seen and blow the comics world away again. Just like my other thread "Whats been significant since Valiant?" mentions. I'd like to see something new become the next great thing too. In fact, if what Jim did coincided with something new and original and exciting for comic fans, it would be a great shot in the arm for our hobby.

Who wakes up lamenting that Marvelman has been banished to copyright oblivion. I never did. I know people who'd hype the hell out of him to pawn off copies for cash, but that's about it. Defiant1

I want to see Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham finish The Silver Age and The Dark Age storylines that Gaiman has been talking about for years and reprint (and hopefully recolor the Leech and Davis artwork) the Alan Moore stuff. After that if Marvel wants to have Ellis, Millar, Ennis, or somewhere else write the series continuing after Gaiman is finsihed or if Marvel wants to bring the characters into the Marvel Universe, Ultimate Universe or both I have no problem with that at all. Just reprint and hopefully recolor the early art and allow Gaiman and Buckingham finish their storylines first.
