When I dumpster dive, I'll pick up unique stuff like this. It's not stuff I would pay much money for. But give it to me for $1 or less and I'll take it. I'd have grabbed that. Don't recall ever seeing it before. df1

Same thing for stuff like this. This is my rare feeble attempts to get into the Underground a bit. Or way off the beaten path. I don't know enough to go at it hard, so when I see stuff like this in dumpster cheap and in good shape, I'll take a stab at it. That doesn't grab me. Maybe the yellow cover is a turn-off. df1

As time went by, my ever growing funny book collection started meaning more and more to me. And this was when I didn't care about them at all and just bought them to be a well rounded collector. I think it grew on me more the more I seen current comics turning into shit. Funny books typically stay true to form and I guess I find comfort in that. Here is an unopened Whitman 3-pack that came out around 1980. Books are in Near Mint inside. When I see stuff like this, I want it. Not because it's funny books. But because the 3-pack being unopened makes it unique. Rather than struggle with opening it or not, I'd never buy it. My tastes are too diverse as it is. Funny animal comics are a side I like to see out there, but they aren't what I want to collect. df1

I would buy these all day because this is the first appearance of KISS. On the last panel of the book. A nice splash page panel by Gene Colan. The following issue is the 1st full appearance of KISS, which I would also buy for just that reason. Most people just don't know. All they see is Howard the Duck. I see 1st appearance of KISS. No temptation for me. The only kiss songs I like are the two songs Kiss fans hate. df1

Here is my copy of Hulk Annual #5 which has the appearance of Groot in it. Along with a lot of other Atlas Era monsters. It's actually a pretty cool book. Mine isn't in that good of shape. I think I graded it a Fine+. But, I'm pretty sure I got it from a dumpster dive. So I threw it up on eBay. Even if it sells for 99 cents, I break even. Certainly a few bucks would make it a worthwhile pickup. I REALLY like this one. I want Blip to battle Zzaxx (Too lazy to check the number of z's and x's) df1

The ever elusive Defenders #10. May not be so hard to find it online. But typically most Local Comic Stores and Convention Dealers do not or are unable to keep it in stock. I always bought them any chance I could. They typically sell well. Great book and great crossover. It always sells first in a run of early issues. df1

This is done by Sal Buscema who I think gets overlooked for his run on the Hulk. I really think his work on the Hulk was his best work. Especially when he had great inkers. Unfortunately, I believe this one was done by Jack Abel, who I think sucked ass. He was a lazy inker who washed out everybody he ever worked on by fading their tightness. He did the same on this issue too, but I will say Sal's dynamic style still shines through. This is actually a pretty kick ass issue.

My favorite songs are Detroit Rock City (because of the bass line) and I was made for loving you (which gets killed as a Disco sellout but I love it). God of Thunder and Wanna Hear it Loud. I've never seen them. I'd see them if nothing else was around. I almost saw them last year. I don't hate them. I actually like them. But they aren't way up there on my favorite bands list. In terms of this issue, I see potential money on it. When I think Howard the Duck, I think issue #1 and #12 and #13. I can't think of any other issues I would actually want. Maybe the last issue. But #12 and #13 I think about in terms of flipping value. Typically a cheap find that can be flipped for profit because most people aren't up on their Howard the Duck realizing this is the 1st appearance of KISS.

My now ex-wife had a decent collection which I inherited now that she is gone. Between what she had and what I've amassed over the years, I have a pretty decent stash of funny books. They aren't my first wave of books I go after, but let me see something like this and I'll scoop it up. I actually have about 3 or 4 of these.

I'm typically not a fan of anything underground for the most part except for oddball stuff like Crumb or some other funny kind of cool stuff. But 80% of it has no appeal for me. This turned out to have too much Manga influence for me to like. I'm not going to be upset to lose it. It was just me trying to branch out.
