Dumpster Diving is when I would make attempts to get off the beaten path. This is one of those time. Another $1 comic in great shape (I graded it NM-.....). I've heard of this series for years, but nothing about it appeals to me. df1

This just hit the auction block and is on sale now. I remember you briefly made the Calendar Man into your Avatar for a bit. These old Batman's always do well. It's funny how many times Batman and Robin are on the front of a book in that position back then. I seen on the CGC boards a while back a thread on this topic. It was too stupid. This issue is from 1958. In great shape with just little things except for the blunted edge on the right side. Overall, its still a sharp copy.

When I dumpster dive, I'll pick up unique stuff like this. It's not stuff I would pay much money for. But give it to me for $1 or less and I'll take it.

Same thing for stuff like this. This is my rare feeble attempts to get into the Underground a bit. Or way off the beaten path. I don't know enough to go at it hard, so when I see stuff like this in dumpster cheap and in good shape, I'll take a stab at it.

As time went by, my ever growing funny book collection started meaning more and more to me. And this was when I didn't care about them at all and just bought them to be a well rounded collector. I think it grew on me more the more I seen current comics turning into shit. Funny books typically stay true to form and I guess I find comfort in that. Here is an unopened Whitman 3-pack that came out around 1980. Books are in Near Mint inside. When I see stuff like this, I want it. Not because it's funny books. But because the 3-pack being unopened makes it unique.

Stuff like the 3-pack just causes my collecting habits to grow. It grows into stuff like this. This kind of stuff I can care about. This is a New Funnies issue from 1951 in very nice shape. No, I don't read the stories or anything inside, but I appreciate books like this because I think of myself as a collector. I don't have any problem buying stuff like this. My funny book collection was just starting to turn the corner into being something real decent. I have quite a few nice ones. Which to me, is the only way to be a funny book collector/seller. You've got to have a lot of it to be a worthwhile seller. Having only a smattering of it to me, get's you killed.

I would buy these all day because this is the first appearance of KISS. On the last panel of the book. A nice splash page panel by Gene Colan. The following issue is the 1st full appearance of KISS, which I would also buy for just that reason. Most people just don't know. All they see is Howard the Duck. I see 1st appearance of KISS.

Here is my copy of Hulk Annual #5 which has the appearance of Groot in it. Along with a lot of other Atlas Era monsters. It's actually a pretty cool book. Mine isn't in that good of shape. I think I graded it a Fine+. But, I'm pretty sure I got it from a dumpster dive. So I threw it up on eBay. Even if it sells for 99 cents, I break even. Certainly a few bucks would make it a worthwhile pickup.

The ever elusive Defenders #10. May not be so hard to find it online. But typically most Local Comic Stores and Convention Dealers do not or are unable to keep it in stock. I always bought them any chance I could. They typically sell well.
