I seen a few of these the other day and didn't know what to think of them. I was thinking they was a small time national press, but now you've made me see that they are local. They ain't bad, but they didn't look all that great either. But passing grade for new start-up. They seem to be right up your alley Az.

I think the cover composition is better than most modern comics. Something is happening in most of them. Surely that isn't art by Jim Fern. I'm guessing it's a person I haven't heard of. Some of the expressions are a bit cartoonish. Not my style at all, but he looks like he could put out some seriously good stuff if he tightened up and got rid of the exaggerated facial expressions. I'm also a bit curious why they didn't actually color the cover since they did color the logo. I'm guessing that coloring wasn't the artist's forté.

Finally won one of these last week. It arrived the other day. Other than the crease near the spine, its a pretty sweet solid copy. I got it cheap. I'm not a big Superman fan, but I've always wanted one of these. I'm happy with it.

I visited a store over the weekend and for the most part, it was a flop experience. I ended up getting 4 new books and no back issues until I found these all packaged together in one bag in board. It was labeled as 1987 Giveaways. They are about the size of a 4 x 6 card and are mini comics. They are actually pretty sweet. I asked the owner if he knew what these were from and he said no. Someone brought them in and when you go through them, there is no indication what they came from, even in the indicia. He said he thought it might have been a 7-11 promo, but Im reluctant to agree with that. I haven't actually tried to look them up in my OSPG yet, but I will get around to it. After I got them, I wish I had gotten more. All 4 of these cost me $3. He had like another 3 sets of these. I might go back eventually and try and pick at least one more set of these up. I think they are unique.

I think they are unique. These were sold as halloween packs to be given away at Halloween. I believe they were polybagged like halloween candy. I own them. I probably have multiples, but I'm not sure. Just as you'd buy a pack of halloween candy to give out, these were sold in packs so that individual comics could be given out to kids. Not a bad idea in my opinion. df1

Just as you'd buy a pack of halloween candy to give out, these were sold in packs so that individual comics could be given out to kids. Not a bad idea in my opinion. Thanks for the info. I think its a good idea for many reasons. It would be great if kids got mini comics like this at Halloween and it played a part into turning them into comic fans. Amazing how great an idea this was for 1987 but nothing similar to this exists today. Comics suffers a bit from out of sight, out of mind. It seems when we were younger, you would "run into" comics more (drug stores, grocery stores, News Stands, etc). Even miss walking my way around the old spinner racks. Even though they damaged the hell out of comics (seen one just over the weekend and VF was like the best a comic was in the rack) its still amazing how just avoiding a spinner rack can make you stop and look. Besides those aspects, the unique collector in me loves these and I'm kicking myself for not picking up more of these when I had the chance. I wouldn't mind owning 2-3 sets (at $3 a pop, it's a steal). The fact it includes 2 Star comics which are starting to stir collectors a bit as being hard to find (especially the later issues and even harder in high grade because the #1 aim was young kids). I think they make perfect additions for Star completists. If I make my way back there, I can tell it will be one of the 1st things I look for. Not going to make a special trip there, but if I'm heading there in the 1st place, I'm gonna hope there is still a couple sets left.

Dude! I think I just figured out what I can do with those 50 copies of VENOM # 1 that you and I bought 15 years ago. I can give them away at Halloween.

I just received these last night. Just a couple of things I picked up to get my New Year in comics rolling. I'm especially fond of the Overstreet Price Guide #10. This was my 1st ever price guide as a kid. Somehow over the years, I misplaced my copy. When I seen this for sale, I just got over nostalgic and had to have it. Now that it arrived, I'm glad I got it. Looking through the old advertisements and articles brought back an awful lot of memories. This book really opened my eyes to just how huge comics were. Amazing facts....back then the most expensive comic in the universe was a Marvel Comics #1 for $10,000. A Detective #27 (1st Batmen) in Mint would have only set you back $4,500 back then. Today that's over $1,000,000 (pinky on my lip). The most expensive Silver Age Book was a Fantasic Four #1 for a measly $1,000 in Mint. Amazing Fantasy #15 (1st Spiderman) would have put you back $900. Oh why of why didn't I mow more yards and deliver more newspaper and got some of the gems way back then? Aaaargh!!!! The Treasury was a nice grab too. I'm still pissed at my history in Treasuries. Back in the early 90s I had an epiphany over Treasuries. I just concentrated on the uniqueness of the items and I just knew one day these bad boys would be worth money. So I started collecting them. I had about 25 of them at my peak and I was only paying like $4 - $6 for them at the time. Then when I left my girlfriend in 2004. I got all my comic books but I forgot about my Treasuries which were tucked up high in a closet. I only managed to save 2 from certain death. The rest have left me. I had the 1st issue of Marvel Treasury which was Spider-Man. I had a really nice copy. Well, I just watched one sell for $280. I am so pissed about losing my treasuries. But I guess I will slowly start putting these back together. They are just so damn expensive now! Aaaargh!!! The Wonder Woman I got simply because I have a decent collection of old Wonder Womans. I've always kinda dug the 60's era where she no longer had a costume. It was kinda groovy for back in the day and those issues seem hard to come by. This arrived in really nice shape. I dig the cover.

My new comics are scheduled to arrive today. Always good to come home from a day of work and have a box of new comics waiting for me. Especially on a Friday. It's like double bonus. End of the workweek and new comics! Winner!
