That is a sweet piece Josh. Is that a print or a real drawing? Either way it is sweet.
Yeah, too bad Mike. I was thinking I might see you at first.

My wife asked me if I wanted to go to the Richmond show this weekend and I said no. That's a sad testament to my current state of mind and comics. I don't even have a desire to go looking for good back issues.

It's going to take more than a new 52 first issues and a Black Spider-man to pull me out of this comic book funk. This may be the worst I've felt about comics in my entire history of being in comics. A few years back I could ignore new comics and concentrate on old ones. But now new comics are so retarded, it has me not even wanting to bother collecting old back issues any more. New comics are making me feel like I finally outgrowed comics at the age of 44.

New comics are making me feel like I finally outgrowed comics at the age of 44. That is exactly how I feel. Some of the modern comics are so bad, they remind me of the bad indy comics that I never thought were good enough years ago. I've grown so weary from chatting with comic fans on many of the other boards. There always seems to be one complete idiot talking about how good modern comics are. On the CPG forum some guy was talking about what a good idea it was to make Spiderman black and Hispanic. Really? How about you go pick out your favorite Toyota product and I'll substitute it with a Nissan and put the Toyota name on it. It has nothing to do with whether a good story can be yanked out of the character. It has to do with giving us the character we want to buy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRrVYEdP_aMdf1

I feel really bad that NEW comics have made me feel that way. I cannot believe just how much damage it has done to my overall collecting. In all my worst years of comic collecting I would always stay away from new comics and focus on old comics. I still found a ton of joy of owning the old classics. I wanted to own them and that is where my collecting focus grew and headed. It kept me in the game. But this new comic stuff has got me feeling so bad, it has me ashamed of comics. The craft of comic creating is shit. Pure shit. And its not just Black Spiderman. It's just this trade paperback, no continuity, block headed aspect and the feeling that everything you ever liked about a character needs to change. That all we need to do is put together a couple of big names in comics and make something called an event. It's losing its total appeal to me. And then to see these creators act so cocky and arrogant about their product while they are presiding over the worst collapse in comics of all time. I just find myself ashamed of comics. Its so bad, its like I want totally out. I'm trying desperately to get myself back into old comics so I can hang on. But right now the feeling is just not there. I just don't have the desire. I'm tired of patting these sucky ass creators on the back with a comic sale. Give me Kirby, Ditko, Kane, Buscema, Byrne, Shooter, Perez, Wrightson, Starlin, etc anyday over these egotistical punks who know nothing about creating good comics. It begins with the character and not the event. We've forgotten how to develop good characters. BTW, that is one of my all-time favorite U2 songs. Song kicks ass! I love turning the distortion up on my bass when I play that.

Not much to add to what you said except that I'm not trying to get back into it. df1

Anybody know when the next Richmond show will be? I might be willing to go to that one. I think a good con will get me out of my comic funk. I'm starting to get out of it and starting to want to buy some comics again. I haven't bought anything all summer. When I go too long, the feeling of wanting to buy something again starts coming back. I'm still thinking back issues/collectibles is the way I want to go for the foreseeable future. Maybe down the road I'll try hitting DCBS up again on some new books, but that's going to be awhile.
