I might be going to the Richmond show next weekend. The tickets are free when you preregister and I have. That's cool because last time it was $10 to get in. Considering I've made it in for free countless times in the past, I didn't mind.
I'm kind of looking forward to it. I want to get my comic game off on the right track this season. You know, an early start might go a long ways.

Yeah, shows are pretty much all I have left at this point. I don't buy new comics and it doesn't take long to know what you have in the comic shops nearby. I go to shows to hopefully find things I normally don't get to see and add a nice book to my collection. I think my days of being a reader are over. I think I'm strictly a collector now. In the long run, it'll probably save me money as I don't buy much over the course of a year and when I do, it'll usually be something I want. Plus, I still enjoy the gathering of a convention. Other than the smelly dweebs that is. The rest of it, I enjoy. Its like a cult thing I guess.

They were smart and got out of the business early. On Twitter, I follow or list some of the part time comic shop employees I knew but they aren't the ones I hung out with the most. Brad & Josh are artists who self publish their work. Paul is a musician who has toured as the opening act for the Indigo Girls. As you know, I went to high school with the Indigo girls. df1

Looks like I am going to the Richmond show today. Should be fun. Got my free tickets printed out. Hopefully I'll find something worthwhile to bring home. If nothing else, its just fun to be around desirable comics, the atmosphere and away from the sucky new comic crap.

I like saving the money I was spending. Turns out I should have felt the same. This show was a complete waste of time and money! Took me 3 hrs to get there after an extended traffic jam. Arrived late and the show ended 1 hr later at 3:30pm. 3:30?!!? WTF?!!! Turns out, it wouldn't have mattered. I scoured the area in one quick sweep to realize in literally 10 minutes that there wasn't 1 comic I wanted at the show! Sure, I could have had all the crap my heart desired at reasonable prices. But anything good? Not on your life!!! The clientel reeked of BO as per usual and much worse than last time. Skanks abounded galore. I've never really understood the mentality of a comic convention slut. What do you win? A nerd??? My wife left with a stack of 50 cent comics and I had zero comics. Zero!!! You never can tell about Richmond. Last time, it was pretty damn good. You go again and it totally sucks. You don't go the time after that and everyone tells you how awesome it was. Its always the opposite of what it was the last time without fail. Next time would probably be awesome but I'll be hard pressed to want to go back. This convention was so bad I nearly wanted to give up anything and everything that had anything to do with comics. Geez! I'm pissed I wasted a day on that. One less day of weekend over some ridiculous crappy comics 140 miles from my home. I blame me for even wanting to go.

They'll bring all bronze to one show and then all moderns to the next. All TPB's to one show, all indy to the next. It sounds like they brought crap because they thought no one would have money to spend after Christmas. df1

I don't know what their thinking was. I seen Azbatx on his facebook bragging how he made out at the show getting good books cheap but we all know he's a modern collector and a lot of what is new today appeals to him. For someone like him, the show was probably a gold mine. But for a collector like me, it was a complete dud.
I did pick up a Captain Atom #89 which is the last Ditko Captain Atom issue with a very cool cover. The problem was, it was in about FN- shape maybe even VG/FN and it wasn't absolutely the most striking copy. Even though I view the Ditko hero issues of that era as some of the most desirable issues for Charlton, I didn't feel like paying $12 for it. In the end, the dealer was talking to another dealer who kept standing in my way so much, that I finally put the issue back in disgust. That was the closest I came to buying anything.
One thing this dealer who apparently had a store said that I overheard, he was lamenting about how the 52 relaunch really hurt his store. He said he lost a lot of DC collectors over it. He said they were $40 - $50 a month type people. He said to the other dealer that you can't get too upset about of few of these people quitting but he said you lose enough $40 - $50 a month people from your normal pull list and it starts hurting you. He made it a point to tell the other dealer how much this really hurt his business. I couldn't help but pay attention as he was saying this. I found it to be the most interesting part of any conversation I overheard while at the show.
Oh and a retard bought a Hulk #181 because Trimpe was there. He just asked if they had anything Trimpe and the guy pulls it off the rack. The dude didn't even hardly look at it. He immediately bought it like it was 10 cents. He wanted to have something for Trimpe to sign. The sad part was Trimpe had already left.

He must have a collection of utter shit. Stuff I'd give away.
Yeah, I know DC fucked up. It's just a matter of how bad and how fast it hurts Diamond. This is the year things get worse for comics. People have tried to justify buying new comics at $3 & $4. As they drop titles, they are going to like that money they save each month.
They won't come back to buying comics.
