I was surprised I had very little action on my board books, and Silver & Bronze age books. I had a couple sales of $100 & over (Thanks Gowaltrip for being one of them!I think he looked at every book I had!! I felt bad for his wife,I know she went through the room a couple times over while Tommy kept diggin' through my stuff). ). Dude, you WAS the show! I knew that going in. That is why I went. I knew you had that collection. I knew you was bringing 65 boxes and 45 of them was $1 books (the best $1 books anywhere PERIOD!) and another 20 was good stuff, not to mention wall stuff that I was drooling over. My only regret was not bringing another $500 to spend. (seriously) Here's Wayne Ehrman, from Zeno's books in Cheasapeake,Va....One of the nicest dealers in the business! The man has handled some of the most important original art pages from the Silver Age on up! Wayne always seems cool! I swear I try to make it to his shop once in awhile, but its not often I can make it there. He is always friendly and seems to love the hobby. I notice with him that more he sees me, the better he treats me too. But even at his worst, he is still a really cool guy. I was disappointed in his incredibly meager selection that he brought to the show though. I forget this guys name, but he has been doing shows ever since I can remember me doing shows in the early '90's. This is the guy I was talking to cfs about after we got back from Charlotte. His set up always amazes me. He always lays out books in a 52 card pickup fashion where you slide books around looking for whatever you like. Usually he has books ranging from GD - VF (mostly lower grades), but always stuff I want. A year ago I got some sweet High Grade OLD Charlton's from him for $5 each. I love them! This year I didnt get anything from him and I actually missed out on looking at him this year. He always seems rather ecentric to me, but I did notice this time him walking over to other dealers and socializing a great deal this time. I really regret not looking through his stuff. He seems like the type that probably has some great insights. Sorry about the watermark right over top of this guy. I don't know who he is,but he had some nice stuff & a clean set up! I never got a serious look at this guy's stuff. I walked right by him, I just ran out of time. I had like 30 minutes left in the show once I walked away from your table. DAMMIT!!! My son working my table! Joey, you was stocked and your stuff kicked ASS!!! I would love to put the whole display book areas you had on lay-away (Im a cheap bitch!) I wanted so many things. I hate when I get to a point where Im deciding to put back things I want because I know Im spending too much. That is the constant dilema I had at your table. If I could have had my way, I could have easily spent $500 - $1000 at your table if I knew I could throw that much at comics away. This is part of the display from a guy named Marc Nathan. He's the guy that runs the Baltimore Comic Con. Was this the guy all the way to the right when you walked in? I remember whoever was there looking like they had a similar setup. I seen a New Mutants #98 (something I really need to find reasonable). I didnt see any prices on his wall books. The people behind the counter just stared at me (kind of pissed me off). I decided to look at the boxes for ideas of pricing. I thought overpriced (especially after leaving your booth). It may not be this guy, but the guy I was talking about, it seemed similar to this. I wanted to stop and look around, but their no-pricing set up on display books and no help attitude even though I was looking like I wanted to see something, turned me off and I walked away never to return. Darn watermark again, sorry. This is Shelton Drums' set-up (not him in the pic). He runs the Charlotte,North Carolina "Heroes Con". I did not get to see this stuff and I am disappointed. Here's the guy from Fandata and his table.... I think my wife bought a few of his junk books. I tried looking at the junk, but in comparison...it was junk. This guy was from the Richmond area, and he cut up old comics and covered stuff with the art. It was pretty cool, and refreshing to see something different at a con! It was rather amusing to see this stuff. I wonder if he made any sells and if it was worth the while? Here's artist,Louis Small Jr... I asked Josh if he brought his sketchbook to get a drawing from this guy? He said....he knew better. Here's Josh (AzbatX),flippin' through my books. I was asking Josh a lot of questions about DC's and Image. He would help out and then be gone only to show up 30 minutes later again. He is useful to have around and shop for comics with. If it is DC or Image, I feel confident asking him a question.

The guy with the "52 card pick-up" is named Richie something (I think)...I have seen talk on the CGC boards where they were saying he touches up books alot and doesn't tell anybody about it!
The guy with the books sticking up out of the long boxes...he was set up straight back as soon as you walked in the door.
I don't know if it's me,but I can't stand to walk up to a booth and not see anything priced. Maybe they get more sales by people asking them to look at something.Once the customer has it in their hands, they might be more inclined to buy it. I don't know,I've never tried to sell my stuff like that.

All that should have been figured out before I even seen it. I tend to walk away from these sellers. Fast.

All that should have been figured out before I even seen it. I tend to walk away from these sellers. Fast. Ive always hated it as well. I think if you ask about an unpriced book, this gives them the opportunity to size you up and determine what they want to try and get. I remember some years back I went into Sap's Comic Chest Store. I hadnt been in there in a long time and wanted to see if he had any good stuff. I walked in and seen to my surprise, tons of boxes. I thought this place had some real possibilities. I started skimming through the boxes and suddenly noticed no prices! I was getting pissed. How was I to know what is a good deal or not? How are they doing this? Luckily there was a few other people in the store and one guy brought a small stack up to the counter. At that point I seen the counter attendant take out an Overstreet and started looking up books. I then realized the pricing was done on the spot. I walked out and have never returned. Seeing the price on a book allows you to see the character of the dealer. You can know at a glance the most you are going to pay and whether or not you are dealing with a reasonably priced dealer or one trying to make out on you. Not seeing a price tag to me makes me think you can be sized up while they look up prices and the prices could go up or down accordingly. If I dont like the prices, it is a waste of time. If you have good prices, why not show it? No prices seems like you're hiding something. I can't hang with it.

You guys going to this? Due to the obvious circumstance, I will not be able to. But with the economy being bad and also right at Thanksgiving, I would think this would be a good show to buy at.

Me and Az are going to this show tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be my 1st real comics buying spree in about 16 months!

I must admit, I had a GREAT time yesterday going to the Richmond show. Me and Az got there in about 90 minutes. If you're going with Az, make sure you eat breakfast before you get near him because he doesn't like to stop off anywhere. Once I realized he wasn't going to stop anywhere, I stopped on the way and picked me up some food. Az doesn't realize the golden rule.....Fat Boys Gotta Eat! When we arrived, we waited for Joey to show up and he did. We all walked in for free and looked around. It was rather relaxing at that point. Once they opened the doors, it got hectic fast. I was really surprised by the turnout. It made me feel like people still love comics and that's a great thing. This was a small show, but there was still a lot of people in costumes. That freaked me out even more. For the most part, the dealers were the same usual dealers. Deals were there to be had, but not anything that blew me away. Obviously the tough economic conditions allowed the customers to have the advantage. Sellers needed to deal to move books. But even still, I didn't see a lot of stuff I wanted. As usual, there was the high priced dealers and they didn't seem to have any customers buying. Serves them right. The crowd was getting out of hand. Same smelly dweebs looking at books right next to you messing up the show. We left after only 3 hrs. Went to a store and then ate at Hooters. Let me just tell you one observation. The black shorts are way better than the orange shorts! After that we stopped at another store that seemed even better and then started heading home. We stopped at one more store on the way home and then the day was over. I had a 20 hr day yesterday. When I finally got home, I had to go to bed within an hr because I was so tired. I got up early this morning (4am) and tried finishing some of my homework. Then it was off to work. I have class after work and I'll get home around 10pm. Then I have homework that has to be turned in (uploaded) by midnight tonight. So once I get home and rested (probably tomorrow), I'll post some of the books I got. All in all, it was fun to shop for comics again. It has been way too long and it's good to be back!

The show was ok. I found myself walking in circles after an hour or so. I found a few books I can flip and a few hardcovers for myself. When we first got into the show I tried a different approach than usual. I walked around before settling in on a place to pillage. Usually I have a good sense of who to hit first. I guess I wasn't into it when I first got there. After a few minutes I got into my groove.
I was a little upset at the first store we hit after we left the show. It has gone down hill more than I remembered. The only good thing about it is Sal and the discount he gives me. It's not his store and he only works there on certain weekends so I can't hold him as the reason why it sucks now. Hopefully it will be good again but I don't see it happening any time soon. I managed to pick up two books for myself here. An issue of Hellblazer I didn't have (#250) and a Clive Barker book that was signed by him.
The second shop was Velocity Comics. I like it but I don't like the guy that was woking there. He never seems to want to be there and it shows. There selection though is higher grade than the other store we were at. Also the books tend to be cheaper. Found a few things for Ebay there as well.
The third store was good for the deal. Managed to pick up two copies of The Agents #6. I also located a few other items to flip. I got Gowaltrip a book to check out here and he got one for me. Hopefully he liked it. The story is good and is only 6 issues.
I thought it was a good day of looking at and buying comics. I just wish I had more money and more time to do it on a daily basis.
