My job had a Xmas decorating contest. It was pretty cool. We basically had about a week to decorate our work areas. I work with 2 girls in my department. 1 is considered senior to me and 1 not. We have a lot of fun working together and I must say, I really love my job. The senior girl knew I drew and encouraged me to draw. The three 3 x 5 ft windows became an empty canvas to draw on. Once it seemed like the place to work on, I brainstormed for an idea and came up with what I thought was something most people had seen and enjoyed over the years "A Charlie Brown Xmas". All last week while working our normal job we spent our efforts on doing this project. We covered the outside windows in wrapping paper so no one could see what we were working on until we were done. I proceeded to work on it every chance I could. I drew the outline in about 2 days and spent the remaining 3 days coloring it in. I discovered that glass markers on glass is not an ideal surface. As with everything, windows like to streak. Same with the markers. I had to work fairly hard to overcome this. Leaning over our office equipment and dividers was another obstacle. At one point I hurt my back and woke up the next morning with pretty bad back spasms. But I have to admit. Once I got started on it, I was really excited to want it to be finished. Finally on Friday evening after everyone left, we unwrapped what was done. The girls had decorate the room and I had done the windows. I also did some quick drawings on the interior, but the main avenue of my work was the glass itself. I must say once it was unwrapped, it looked pretty neat. The pictures don't do it justice. Standing outside the room, the light from the inside of the room shined on the picture and made the picture appear to have a light-brite type affect. Although I seen areas I wished I had done better, I was relatively happy with the results. Monday morning was the judging. We had VIPs from the corporate headquarters come down and look at everybody's entries. I must say, the competition was quite impressive. Another area did the Grinch that Stole Xmas and had their area as a miniature Whoville. Another woman made her cubicle into a Ginger Bread house complete with a roof over her cubicle. It was quite impressive. Once everyone came to work on Monday and seen what I had did, I received a steady stream of visitors, compliments, handshakes and picture taking of both my art and me and my team in front of our art. It was kind of surreal. Ive never had so many people come by and take pictures of my work. Still others brought their children in to look at it. Yes, I thought it was a bit much, but it was still neat to see children looking at it and parents taking pictures. I must say, I was quite proud of it. Today, we had a luncheon at work and I was crowned the champion to a roaring ovation of applause. It was a truly gratifying moment. With the modest winnings, I'm sharing the loot as lunch for me and my crew. I must say, it doesn't feel like work when you love what you do and the people you work with. I feel really great working at this place and this project made me feel really good too.

Dude! Great Job. That looks like a lot of work and you and the girls hooked it up. Congrats on the win.

I finally drew something new this week while working. I used only 1 .7mm mechanical pencil and only worked on this during my free time.

As I said on facebook, that is a fantastic piece. It looks better than the airbrushed version I did.

Its funny, I finished this on my last full day of work. I decided I was going to try and draw as a distraction to keep me out of trouble and to get my art on an upward trend again. Well, we see how that worked out.
I was happy with this. I see the flaws in it. I know what I don't like about it. But all in all, I like the picture. I think it looks like Jimi. Which is what matters to me the most. And I think for me, its a decent piece. And I really didn't put much time into it either which is further gratifying because I got a lot of complements on this by putting forth a small amount of time. So, it feels good to know I can do something decent without slaving over it forever.
I just wish I had done more since then but I doubt I will be for awhile now again.

Been awhile since I've been able to draw at work, but it's the only thing that helps me keep my sanity. Thought I would try and get myself back into it with some challenging Bark's work. Barks is the shit though....he is. I couldn't do it justice, but I'd like to think I made a reasonable effort. I drew with a regular #2 pencil like you use in school. I liked working iwht it but it had its own set of challenges. As long as I survive the job I will keep drawing. This is the first effort on a realm of trying to come back while I'm doing what I'm doing. Which could stop any day in all honesty.
