Seems my "Messageboard Milestones" thread was turning into a discussion about Jim Shooter and Dark Horse and the effect it was having on VEI (which was fine with me), but I thought I would start a thread over here to keep it in the proper area.
Whenever I think of Dark Horse, I always think of a company that has been on the heels of Marvel and DC (and others) throughout it's now very long history but never quite becoming a force or a majorly hot company. Other than some brief glimpses, Dark Horse never seemed to find the magic formula to take the focus away from others and more importantly, market share.
Very recently, if you would of asked me, I would have said that Dark Horse appeared to be fading into being irrelevant and maybe on the verge of fading away. I never hear the hype machine churning for anything Dark Horse is doing anymore and it seemed like it was catching up with them.
And now Dark Horse has the biggest announcement I can remember which may be a key event in their history and changes the game not just for them, but perhaps others as well. Does getting Jim Shooter to write and oversee old Gold Key characters including some of the heavier Valiant hitters make Dark Horse a contender again? This move seems very calculating and even a bit desperate, but at the same time seems brilliant. It places comic fans eyes back on their company.
Does this move make Dark Horse a legitimate contender again?

Only if the books actually sell. Jim Shooter is not cheap. If they are paying him a big chunk of money and the books don't sell, it might be another revamp cut short.

Yes, it's too early to tell, but acquiring definately puts it in the realm of possibility that Dark Horse will become a powerhouse. This has the potential to set Dark Horse up with a comic universe that will last long after Shooter leaves. I'm sure the stories will be good. Let's hope they sell!

One thing I haven't seen or heard yet. Does anybody know when these books are expected to hit the stands? I think its a cant miss. I might do all I can to pre-order a few. I smell sell-out.

I've heard middle of next year unofficially. Can't remember where I heard that, though. Shooter said it shouldn't take him long to get going. The upcoming interview with Shooter slated to go live Friday should tell us more on that and more. It would be a shame not to be able to buy at least one of everything.

I'm curious to see if there will be any new revelations during the interview to bring even further excitement into this story.
